Raavanan- Collector's Edition- A.R.Rahman

Last week i had hold of The Raavanan Collector's Edition.. It cost me a fair amount of my pocket money...(200 bucks) , but the purchase was worth it..... When i first ripped the CD and had a peep at the additional five tracks from the soundtrack of the movie i was in awe of what Rahman could deliver when it came to experimental music.... The original six tracks are already much known to the masses.. So lets have a look into the additional tracks..." Naan Varuven" is a complete song.... Let it be the tune or the orchestration or the vocals, A.R.Rahman has knit together a perfect song.... The Piano tune in the middle heavily resembles the tune of "Nee Partha" from Hey Ram... I suppose A.R.Rahman wanted to create something in the line of Nee Partha and has succeed and how, the music is spellbinding.... "Lament of the Leaves" is a slow and soulful piece of music with heavy usage of African instruments and some interesting vocals by Bruno Conn.... "Restless Mystic" is very pleasing to hear even as an individual track....
"Yaaro Evalo" is very very haunting and is heavy..... But my pick of the album has to be the last track "Kalingathu Bharani", a rising chant with amazing beats again African i suppose.... The vocal just inspires and makes you sit up even during sleep........ Amazing Soundtrack from Rahman Sir.....

Aadukalam- G.V.Prakash Kumar

Some two weeks ago i picked up the audio CD of Aadukalam from the shelves of a music shop never knowing that it would hook on to me so much.... When i first heard the album ... WOWIE, many reviewers held average ratings for this album(surprising). For me, this is Pudhupettai of G.V.Prakash Kumar... Not to compare the two soundtracks, but this is the best G.V has ever come out with... His usage of instruments like Oud, Bouzouki and most importantly my fav. Glocken Spiel in the song "Yathi Yathi" , the first and best track of the album shows the level of experimentation G.V has done in this album.... "Otha Sollale" has a very , very addictive set of beats and so is the vocal carried in a rhythmic fashion by Velmurugan of "Orunimisham" fame from KPKP.... " Porkkalam- Tamil Rap" is a very interesting track given the harsh and dark voice of YogiB who carries this song so powerfully, also kudos to the lyricist Yugabharathi for bringing in some inspiring lyrics... The "Warriors- English Rap" is a reprise of the tamil version.... SPB and SPC do an amazing job in "Ayyayyo".. Hats off to the composer for using the father- son duo so effectively... "A Love Blossoms" is beautifully carried by Navin Iyer and supported by some rocking beats in the background.... For me, Aadukalam is Two Big Thumbs Up...

The Bourne Ultimatum- Its what started it all....

The Bourne Ultimatum- Soundtrack by John Powell has been my introduction into the world of Soundtracks... Until then i was a sparse soundtrack listener.. But Ultimatum changed it all... The music by John Powell is amazing and so has been the integration of the music on screen.... When i first heard the score, the first thing that stuck me was John Powell's literally jaw-dropping usage of percussion and violins for action- cues. His specific track called "TANGIERS" was just the right example of how an action cue must be.... Heavy usage of middle- east percussions and soaring violins make up one of the finest action-cues of all time.... Also is the track called "COMING HOME" which has a slow violin build up with an interesting array of percussion, middle- eastern i guess in the background... One another of my favorite tracks would be "JASON IS REBORN"... with a sombre tune that exactly replicates the feel of the movie... For me, this album would be my personal favorites of all time...

My First Post

Hi this is Sundar... This is my first post in Soundtrack Musings.... Almost for about ten years i have been involved in music either practicing in the first three years and as a hardcore music listener for the rest.... Music has been my greatest, unchanged passion. In this blog i am hoping to share all those musical musings i had in the past to fellow music fans. ONE very important thing... This is NOT a REVIEW page... I will not review or rate Soundtracks in all languages... But i will only post my random thoughts about the soundtracks....
